Robert Hernandez
Robert Hernandez, a prominent tattoo artist known for his dark and realistic style, has established a profound reputation in the world of tattooing. Born on July 19 in Prudnik, Poland to a family with Spanish ancestry, Hernandez's passion for art was sparked in his early childhood days spent with his great grandparents. His grandfather's caricatures and a never-ending presence of pencils inspired him to start creating art at a young age, with one of his earliest works being a caricature of Charles De Gaulle. Yet, it was hearing the band Kiss at the age of ten that reshaped his artistic direction, propelling him towards creating sketches and comic books.
Hernandez honed his craft at art school from 1985 to 1988 before making a life-changing move to Madrid. There, in early 1992, he began working at Mao y Cathy, which was Madrid's first tattoo studio and a hub for talented artists across Europe. These experiences, along with his travels worldwide and participation in numerous tattoo conventions, enriched his artistic approach and helped him develop a distinctive style marked by realism and a sinister edge.
Robert believes that any image capable of being painted can be tattooed. He masterfully plays with tones and textures to bring his subjects to life, no matter how imaginative or unconventional they may seem. His preference for pastels, oil paints, and watercolors add a unique vibrancy and texture akin to oil paintings in his artwork.
In 2000, Robert Hernandez opened his own studio in Madrid named Vittamin Tattoo, where he continues to transform inspiration from a wide range of influences, including medieval art, surrealism, contemporary art, and music, into captivating tattoos. With over fifteen years in the industry, Hernandez stands out as an innovative force in tattoo artistry, conveying his personal artistic journey and profound skills through each piece he creates.
