When you get new ink done, it's important to listed to your legitimate tattoo artist's directions for aftercare. This story from earlier in the month is an example of why ignoring aftercare can result in serious problems. A 31 year old man went swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, not too long after getting a new tattoo, during the time when one is supposed to keep it exposed from water as much as possible because it needs to heal. He ended up checking into a hospital days later after experiencing pain in his legs, the result of a serious vibriosis infection from the exposure of an open wound. This led to a prolonged hospital stay, and he ended up dying from complications of septic shock.
Lesson learned: keep your tattoo away from dirty water and listen to your tattoo artist's aftercare!
