Paul Andi Bocu: Painter, Tattooist, Two Decades Deep

Paul Andi Bocu has been doing this since 2002. That's over two decades of needle and brush, of studying light and form, of translating the grand traditions of fine art onto skin. Known online as @pavlocapoeira, Paul operates out of Positive Temptation Tattoo Studio in Italy — and his work carries the unmistakable weight of someone who approaches tattooing the way a classical painter approaches canvas.

The Painter-Tattooist

Paul identifies himself plainly in his bio: tattoo artist and painter since 2002. That dual practice isn't incidental — it's the foundation of everything he does. Painters see differently than tattooists who only tattoo. They understand value, composition, and the architecture of light in ways that translate directly into the skin, and Paul's work is saturated with that understanding.

His portfolio reflects an obsession with classical imagery — cherubs rendered with soft luminosity, Greek and Roman busts translated into black and grey with the gravitas of sculpture, female portraiture that captures both likeness and mood. The influences are old-world, the execution thoroughly modern. It's a combination that produces work with genuine cultural depth.

Black & Grey with a Fine Art Soul

Paul's primary language is black and grey realism, but it reads less like tattooing and more like drawing — meticulous, patient, built on layers rather than single passes. The kind of work that rewards close inspection and holds up over time. Twenty-plus years of practice produces that kind of sureness. Every mark is intentional. Nothing is decorative for its own sake.

The classical and spiritual iconography running through his portfolio — angels, saints, philosophical figures — connects to a tradition of devotional art that Italian culture has always carried deeply. In Paul's hands, that tradition finds a contemporary form.

Positive Temptation Tattoo Studio

Paul works out of Positive Temptation Tattoo Studio in Italy, a space that reflects the serious, art-forward approach he brings to everything he does. With over 327 posts and a dedicated following built entirely through the work, his presence is that of a craftsman who lets quality speak before anything else.

Sullen Family

Fine art roots, classical imagery, two decades of dedicated practice, and a painter's eye applied to skin — Paul Andi Bocu represents the kind of depth and cultural seriousness that the Sullen Art Collective has always honored. The work endures because it's built to.
