Rafa Lobo: Neo-Traditional Fire from Brazil's Private Studio

Rafa Lobo doesn't operate out of a walk-in shop. He runs a private studio in Brazil — the kind of setup that means every client is there intentionally, every appointment matters, and every piece gets the full weight of his attention. It's a model built for quality over volume, and the work reflects it completely.

The Private Studio Model

Based in Brazil with a private studio setup, Rafa takes bookings and estimates via WhatsApp — a direct, no-intermediary approach that keeps the relationship between artist and client clean and personal. His Gothic shield logo — crosses, daggers, old world craft — signals immediately that this is someone who takes the traditions of the trade seriously, even while pushing the work forward.

The Work: Animals with Attitude

Rafa's specialty is clear from the first scroll: animals rendered with power, drama, and a neo-traditional sensibility that gives every creature a presence larger than its placement. Tigers dominate the feed — psychedelic, vibrating with electric color in some pieces, classically rendered in black and grey in others, bold and thick-lined in full neo-traditional color in still others.

What sets the work apart is the range of execution within a focused subject matter. This isn't an artist who found one tiger formula and repeats it. Each piece finds a different angle — different palette, different energy, different mood — while maintaining a consistent level of craft and intention. The animals feel alive. They have teeth.

Beyond the Needle

The "Vans" highlight reveals another dimension: Rafa also paints custom Vans sneakers, bringing his illustrative style off the skin and onto footwear with the same bold visual language. The "Desenhos" (drawings) highlight documents his design process — an artist who works out his ideas on paper before they ever touch a machine.

Sullen Family

Bold neo-traditional wildlife, private studio discipline, a visual identity rooted in old world craft symbols, and a Brazilian tattoo scene that continues to produce some of the most technically confident artists in the world — Rafa Lobo fits the Sullen Art Collective perfectly. The work is direct, committed, and alive.
