Rick Trip: Las Vegas's Most Versatile Tattoo Artist and a True Sullen Loyalist

Las Vegas is a city built on spectacle. So it makes sense that the tattoo artist who best represents it isn't a one-trick performer — he's someone who can do everything, and do it at the highest level.

That's Rick Trip. Owner, lead artist, road warrior, and one of the most genuinely versatile tattoo artists operating in the West today.

Built for the Convention Circuit, Planted in Vegas

Rick Trip didn't start behind a counter. Before Trip Ink Tattoo Company had a storefront, the brand was Rick and a handful of artists traveling the convention circuit — tattooing across the country, building a reputation one event at a time. That hustle started back in 2007, and by 2013 it had grown into something permanent: a brick-and-mortar shop at 5115 Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas, tucked inside Hot Rod City and open to anyone walking through the door.

That origin story matters. Rick didn't wait for the city to come to him — he went to the world first, then built a home base.

The Work: Everything, Done Right

Rick's own philosophy is simple and direct: "Bold will hold and I make sure that my color blends make sense with the skin tone I'm working with. My goal is to make my clients stand out in a room from people that are already tattooed."

That goal requires range, and Rick has it. High contrast black and grey. Bold saturated color. Japanese. Neo-traditional. Pointillism. Portrait work. He's widely recognized as one of the most technically versatile artists in Las Vegas — the kind of artist that other shops can't replicate because you can't manufacture 20-plus years of diverse, real-world experience.

He's worked conventions and shared shop floors alongside names like Cleen Rock One, Carl Grace, and Christian Buckingham. That's the company he keeps, and it tells you everything about the level he operates at.

Rock & Roll Ink

Rick has deep roots in the music world — specifically in the heavy music scene that overlaps hard with Sullen's DNA. He's put ink on members of Five Finger Death Punch, including Ivan Moody, Jeremy Spencer, Jason Hook, and Chris Kael. When rock's heaviest acts come to Vegas, Rick is the one they trust with their skin.

That intersection of tattoo culture, music, and lifestyle isn't a branding exercise for Rick — it's just how he lives.

Trip Ink & Sullen: The Connection Is Real

Trip Ink Tattoo Company isn't just a place to get tattooed — it's a cultural hub. The shop carries Sullen Art Collective apparel in its retail space alongside Black Flys sunglasses, body jewelry, and more. Rick has been connected to the Sullen world for years, and it shows in the ethos of the shop: art-first, community-driven, no compromises on quality.

When a tattoo shop stocks your brand because they actually believe in it, that's the deepest kind of endorsement.
