Stéphane Chaudesaigues
Stéphane Chaudesaigues: Nearly 40 Years of Ink from the Heart of France
There are tattoo artists, and then there are architects of tattoo culture. Stéphane Chaudesaigues belongs firmly in the second category. Tattooing since 1986 out of the tiny village of Chaudes-Aigues in the Cantal region of the French Auvergne, Stéphane has spent nearly four decades building not just a personal body of work but entire institutions around the craft he loves.
The Village That Tattoos
Chaudes-Aigues is not a city. Population a few hundred, tucked into the volcanic highlands of south-central France — it is the last place most people would expect to find one of the country's most influential tattoo figures. And yet that's exactly the point. Stéphane built his practice and his community there, proving that the culture doesn't require a metropolis. It requires commitment.
His studio at 6 rue Notre Dame d'Aout is the base of operations for a career that has extended far beyond the walls of any single shop — into magazines, events, education, and the broader French tattoo ecosystem.
Builder of Institutions
Stéphane doesn't just tattoo. He builds.
As Président de Tatouage & Partage since 2011, he has helped shape one of France's most important tattoo community organizations — a platform for sharing, education, and connection within the French tattoo world.
As Fondateur du Cantal Ink since 2013, he created a convention rooted in his home territory, bringing the international tattoo community to the French countryside and putting Chaudes-Aigues on the global tattoo map.
As Cofondateur de Gourmet & Glouton, he's extended his community-building instincts beyond tattooing into food culture — the mark of someone whose impulse to gather and celebrate is bigger than any single discipline.
The "Mes projets" and "Mes combats" (My battles) story highlights reveal a person who engages with the world fully — projects, community, personal convictions, the village he loves.
Followed by the Sullen Family
@sullentv and @nathanharkertattoo follow Stéphane's account — a signal of mutual recognition between the Sullen Art Collective and one of Europe's most enduring tattoo figures. The alignment is natural. Sullen was built around exactly this kind of artist: someone who has given their life to the craft, built community around it, and never stopped showing up.
Sullen Family
Nearly 40 years tattooing. Three institutions built. A village put on the global tattoo map. A life lived entirely in service of the craft and the culture around it — Stéphane Chaudesaigues is a living piece of tattoo history, and the Sullen Art Collective is proud to recognize him.
